How meters save energy
How can a meter save energy? Well, to put it simply, it can’t. Then, you might think, what does all the talk about meters that save energy mean. The fact is that meters make people change their behavior.
Change in behavior
If the individual residents in buildings without meters want to save energy by reducing their heat or water consumption, it will hardly be visible on their bill, because the savings caused by individuals is split between all the residents in the building. This way the residents who are making an effort to save energy in effect pay for the consumption made by residents who don't save. This is very demotivating, and people stop caring about saving energy.
Fairness – an incentive to saving energy
So, meters do not save energy. They are, however, the only way to give an incentive to all residents, by making it pay to save energy. In buildings with meters, it pays to be energy conscious, as the individual residents pay only for what they use. This is fairness – for the residents and for the environment.
Brunata’s meters maintain confidence
Meters must be as precise as possible, in order to keep confidence in the metering. If the metering is inaccurate, the confidence is lost, and the residents will stop bothering. This is one of the reasons that development of precision meters is top priority at Brunata, and the reason that Brunata's metering patents are second-to-none in the field.
