Stadtwerke Dillingen expands its digital infrastructure with B.One element suite

Stadtwerke Dillingen began expanding its own LoRaWAN® network in 2020. Since then, the network has been continuously expanded and is used for remote reading of meters, with data processed in B.One element suite.

A growing LoRaWAN® network

Stadtwerke Dillingen began setting up its LoRaWAN® network in 2020. The network initially consisted of six gateways and has since been continuously expanded. Today, 20 gateways and around 12,000 devices are installed and in operation covering Dillingen and its neighboring city Merzig.

The network provides the infrastructure for remote reading meters and transmitting data digitally. It can also be expanded as new requirements emerge, allowing Stadtwerke Dillingen to continue building on its existing LoRaWAN® infrastructure.

Remote reading of water meters

Thousands of LoRaWAN® water meters are installed across the utility, making meter readings easier to access and providing more data for analysis as well as other Smart City use cases.

One example is 20 water meters installed in meter shafts. Previously, employees had to enter the shafts to read the meters. With remote reading, this is no longer necessary, saving time and money and reducing the workload for employees.

Data processed in B.One element suite

Data collected via the LoRaWAN® network is processed in B.One element suite. With data from across the water network available digitally, Stadtwerke Dillingen has a broader data foundation for analysis. Measured values can be analysed, and rules can be created for automation – for example, email notifications when predefined conditions change.

Data can also be transferred from B.One element suite to the customer’s own backend system for further processing.
